1972 - 50 Year Football Reunion
1st XI and 2nd XI teams of 1972 gathered at the School for a 50 year reunion lunch ....
On Saturday 12th November, eleven members of the School 1st XI and 2nd XI teams of 1972 gathered at the School for a 50 year reunion lunch, generously hosted by The Salopian Club.
Afterwards they watched the current 1st XI beat old rivals, Repton 2-0.
Guests of honour were Robin Trimby (Staff 1958-83 ) and Peter Morris (Staff 1968-95).
Many memories were shared and Robin Trimby named this 1972 1st XI as probably the best side he managed over the 20 odd years he was Master i/c Football and possibly one of the most successful in the history of Shrewsbury Football.
A record of Played 13 , Won 11, Drew 2, Lost none , with only 4 goals conceded was certainly a remarkable achievement.
Tony Barker, the 1972 1st XI captain, responded by saying it was always difficult to compare different teams of different eras, but it certainly was a particularly strong year group.
Indeed the 2nd XI also had some remarkable results that year and many of that 2nd XI would undoubtedly have been 1st XI players in other years.
It was a wonderful day, enjoyed by all with a couple of members making their first visit back to the School in 50 years.
Thanks again to The Salopian Club for hosting the event.
