Salopian Drivers Club Event
Bentley Drivers and Salopian Drivers meet on Central
On a gloriously sunny Sunday morning pupils and School residents were treated to the sight of more than 30 classic cars parking up on Central for a joint meeting of the Salopian Drivers Club and the Shropshire branch of the Bentley Drivers Club. The two groups convened at School before setting off on a tour of the north of the county culminating in lunch at Hawkstone Hall.
It was a particularly significant event for current Rigg’s Hall Housemaster Matthew Barrett whose great-grandfather was the Chief Engineer at Bentley in the 1920s and raced some of the earliest models at Le Mans. He was delighted to see a couple of vehicles from that era very much still in working order.
Alongside Bentleys from almost every decade other notable vehicles included an Aston Martin DB6 and a Jaguar XK150.
The Salopian Drivers Club has more than 100 members and its own website https://www.salopiandriversclub.org/ . You don’t have to own a classic car, just be an enthusiast to become a member. Old Salopians and parents of current Salopians are all welcome. See website for details.
