Old Salopians

It might have been the final of the French Open over the weekend but forget Djokovic v Ruud, the big match was on the Gorswen Courts where the Old Salopian Tennis players took on the School.

The fixture hadn’t taken place since the pandemic and was revived by Master in Charge of Tennis Henry Bennett and Old Salopian Alex Loumidis (Rt 2014-2019). The OS team was bolstered by guest appearances from Mr Bennett along with staff tennis legends Matthew Clarke and Steve Wilderspin. Former tennis coach Mike Barton also played, Myles Harding was unfortunately out of the running due to injury.

After a couple of hours of close fought tennis on the warmest day of the year so far, the teams took refuge in the Peterson Room for some cold drinks and lasagne. It’s hoped the fixture can become an annual event again and may be played on the new Astro tennis courts currently under construction in future.
