Senior Rowers travel to Thames Valley for Regattas
On Saturday the Senior Boys and Senior Girls travelled to the Thames Valley to race at the Marlow Regatta and Henley Women’s Regatta respectively.
Both events took the form of a time trial followed by side-by-side race. The 2nd VIII had an early start as they were competing in the first event of the day. In the time trial they placed 5th of the 2nd VIII’s. It was a result that managed to repeat in their final to improve on their seventh-place finish at National Schools.
The boys’ 1st VIII produced a strong performance in their time trial beating two of the crews that had beaten them at National Schools. Their time placed them in the highest final of any of the Tier 2 eights meaning they had won their event. In the side-by-side final they struggled to produce the form they did in the time trial and will have something to build on going into Henley next week.
The Senior Girls coxed four had decent race in their time trial and were unlucky to narrowly miss out on a place in the match racing. The Girls 1st VIII put in a strong performance in the time trial to qualify into the second round of racing. In their match race with Tideway Scullers they struggled to hit the form we have seen from them in recent events and they were disappointed to bow out of the competition at that stage. Credit to Tideway Sculler for an impressive performance from them.
The girls will be racing at the Henley Qualifying regatta on Friday to try and earn their chance to compete at the famous regatta.
