A Sixth Former has been selected to play for a regional rugby team, with hopes to continue his success and play for the Scottish U20s.

Tom D (I, UVI) is entering the second season of captaining the Shrewsbury Rugby Club Colts team following a successful year playing for both the Shropshire U17s & U18s rugby team.

This also provided the opportunity for Tom to trial for the North Midlands U17s team.

Tom said: “I was selected for the North Midlands U17s and played at both Inside Centre (12) and Fullback (15) on several occasions.

“This season, I am currently captaining the Shrewsbury Colts team from the position of Flyhalf (10). I have also played for the Shropshire U18s team, and I have been selected again for the squad of North Midlands U18s with our games scheduled for the start of next year. A successful performance in that team may well provide the opportunity to trial for the wider Midlands U18s squad.

“Alongside this, the Scottish Rugby Union have been in contact to inform me that my development is being monitored for a future Scotland U20s as I am 50% Scottish on my father’s side.”

Director of Sport Andrew Pembleton added: “It has been fantastic to follow and support Tom’s rugby journey from School and club level through to Shropshire and North Midlands regional selection and representation, and because of strong performances he is now on the radar of the Scottish Exiles pathway.

“Tom's dedication to his school sport and in particular his rugby, combined with his unwavering commitment to teamwork and continuous improvement, has truly set him apart. His positive attitude, resilience and skill on the field have made him a valuable addition to any team he represents.

“We eagerly anticipate watching him shine on the regional stage and will continue to follow and support Tom as he progresses on his rugby journey.  Congratulations, Tom, on this well-deserved opportunity!”
