Pupils gain insight into Professor Oyebode's Life in Psychiatry
Last Wednesday, the Dialogues programme continued with Professor Femi Oyebode, who gave generously of his time to discuss his life in Psychiatry.
He spoke with incredible warmth and enthusiasm for the profession and gave some valuable insights into his ground-breaking research on delusional misidentification syndromes.
We learned about impairments of face recognition memory, and the causes of psychotic phenomena such as visual and auditory hallucinations. Femi also shared his belief in the humanising role of literature in medicine, and the importance of always reading, learning, and treating patients with utmost dignity.
Pupils asked a fascinating range of questions, from the importance of idealism in the medical profession to the challenges of diagnosis. We were joined by several members of the public and medical professionals for this special event, along with Femi's wife Jan, a clinical psychologist and Professor of Dementia Care.
