A Lower Sixth former spent the Easter holiday representing Hong Kong in the Ice Hockey World Championships, where she was awarded Best Player.

Andrea L (G) was part of the bronze medal-winning team at this year’s International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships.

Andrea said: “My journey into ice hockey started when I was seven. My introduction to the world of ice hockey is deeply influenced by my family, in particular my mother. She always had a passion for this sport whilst she studied in Canada. When I first watched a game of ice hockey, I was instantly drawn into the intensity and physicality of the game.

“The IIHF (international ice hockey federation) Ice Hockey World Championship gathers talented players from all around the world. I am immensely proud and deeply honoured to have the opportunity to represent my own country in the World Championship.

“Last year, I had the privilege to be a part of the team that made history by winning the first ever gold medal for Hong Kong, China. Despite playing against stronger and better opponents this year, we remained undeterred, bringing home another bronze medal. Although we only just joined this division, we are still able to prove our resilience and determination.

“Moreover, receiving the Best Player of the team award was an incredible honour and recognition of my hardwork on and off ice. Behind this award is not only the dedication and hardwork of myself but also the support of my coaches, teammates, my family and many more. I am deeply grateful and thankful for this opportunity to represent my hometown and to have played a role in this success. Lastly, I would also like to express my gratitude to the school for their unwavering support throughout my journey in ice hockey.”
