Old Salopians offer advice to pupils on life after Shrewsbury
As part of their Sixth Sense festival, the Lower Sixth had a series of sessions dedicated to making plans for life after Shrewsbury.
The first was a session with Fred Binley, Head of Student Recruitment at Lancaster University, on how to whittle down their course and university list, where he offered top tips on finding the right subject and how looking slightly outside of the box could pay real dividends.
The second was a dedicated session with their tutors, where they were tasked with turning the blank page into the first draft of their personal statement, alongside the nuts and bolts of filling in their UCAS applications.
We were also delighted to welcome over 25 Old Salopians currently studying at university back to Severn Shore to talk to the Lower Sixth informally about their courses and universities; feedback has told us time and again the value of hearing from those with the most current and relevant experience. From Edinburgh to Exeter, English to Engineering, the breadth and depth of Salopian endeavour was clear to see, even beyond the letter E.
It was also lovely to see so many teachers and tutors stop by to catch up with their former wards over the course of the afternoon; it is always grand to hear how they're getting on.
