Queens' pupils named finalists in prestigious Essay Prize
Two Shrewsbury pupils have had their work shortlisted for a top essay prize.
Crystal N (QEH, LVI) and Lulu G (QEH, V) have had their essays shortlisted for the Philosophy and Politics categories of the John Locke Institute 2024 Essay Prize.
The John Locke Institute encourages young people to cultivate the characteristics that turn good students into great writers: independent thought, depth of knowledge, clear reasoning, critical analysis and persuasive style. Our Essay Competition invites students to explore a wide range of challenging and interesting questions beyond the confines of the school curriculum.
Crystal wrote a fascinating response to the question: "Do girls have a (moral) right to compete in sporting contests that exclude boys?"
Lulu examined whether 'there can ever be too much democracy.'
As finalists, they have been invited to an Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner later in September at Grosvenor House, Mayfair. They will also attend a series of lectures by distinguished academics from Oxford and Cambridge, and the Director General of the John Locke Institute.
Crystal and Lulu have done very well to be shortlisted, with the top 15% of entrants selected to attend this event.
