Shrewsbury cricket stars sign professional county contracts
The Shrewsbury School cricketing community have been celebrating the incredible achievements of 2024 leavers Jack Home and Theo Wylie, after they became the latest two pupils to attain professional status.
The former Oldhamites hit the headlines after going head-to-head in the Metro Bank One Day Cup Quarter-Final for Worcestershire and Warwickshire respectively, just weeks after leaving Shrewsbury. Jack went on to take 16 wickets in the competition, and was also recorded bowling in excess of 90mph, making him one of the top performers nationally in a stunning breakthrough season.
This Quarter Final match was one for the Old Salopian history books, as Ed Pollock (I, 2011-13) played alongside Jack for Worcestershire and Ed Barnard (PH, 2012-14) Captained the Warwickshire side with Theo.
After successful stint for the England U19 squad, Theo signed a rookie contract with Warwickshire in July, and this week saw even more good news as Jack was awarded a three-year professional contract with Worcestershire after his successful summer.
Posting on the Worcestershire website, Jack said: “I couldn’t be any more pleased. I’ve been at Worcestershire since I was seven or eight and have been through all the age groups, all the pathways, Sub Academy and Academy.
“To be given the opportunity to play for this club and to sign a three-year contract is a dream come true, and it didn’t take much time to say yes!”
Congratulations Jack!
