Shrewsbury School Secures Outstanding Delegation at QMUN 2024
On November 23rd, ten delegates from Shrewsbury School participated in the fourth annual Queen’s School Chester Model United Nations (QMUN) Conference.
Representing Russia, along with two guest chairs, George R (SH, LVI) and Jade C-M (MSH, UVI), the team, led by Dr Oakley and Miss von Kuk, brought exceptional skill and commitment to the event, sacrificing their well-earned Coach Weekend to engage in thought-provoking debates.
The conference covered a range of pressing global issues, such as electoral corruption, healthcare misconduct, global arms trade regulation, and AI's impact on national and international security. The discussions were lively, intellectually rigorous, and full of constructive dialogue.
Shrewsbury School was awarded ‘Outstanding Delegation’ in the conference, with individual Shrewsbury delegates excelling across multiple committees, securing an impressive collection of awards:
- Outstanding Delegates
- Dason T (Rt, LVI) – Security Council
- Harry F (SH, LVI) – Disarmament
- Tyger L-G (R, V) – Human Rights Council
- Highly Commended Delegate
- Anny M (G, IV) – Youth Committee
- Commended Delegate
- Kouki H (I, LVI) – Politics and Ethics Council
- Honourable Mentions
- Harry P (S, LVI) – Health Committee
- Henry H (SH, LVI) – Environmental Science Council
George R (SH, LVI), who served as the guest chair of the Politics and Ethics Council, remarked: " One of the most thought-provoking debates was about hidden autocracies in democracies, like how Hungary used legal means to erode freedoms by changing its constitution.
"The delegates were incredibly well-prepared, bringing thoughtful and passionate arguments to the table. It was a privilege to chair."
The team’s outstanding performance at QMUN 2024 embodies the Salopian values of intellectual curiosity, dedication, and community spirit, paired with a genuine passion for addressing global challenges.
Congratulations to all the participants on their remarkable achievements!
