Salopians have been part of a nationwide campaign in the hope to get communities in the Christmas spirit once again, as Doorstep Carols returns on Wednesday, December 15th.

In 2020, Doorstep Carols was broadcast on 35 local radio stations and covered by BBC Breakfast News, Channel 5, The One Show, BBC Midlands Today and in national press. It led to amazing scenes of participation from individual streets and neighbourhoods up and down the country and raised tens of thousands of pounds for local and national charities.

Salopians George R (Ph, III) wrote music for the first Doorstep Carols campaign, and Faye P (M, III) sang, with both pupils involved again this year along with Daniel O (Rt, IV), Lola R (MSH, III) and Paphatchaya C (MSH, III).

Our pupils have created a song for the campaign and star in an advert for Doorstep Carols, which was created with a CBeebies producer and puppeteer.

Faye said: “It’s been really fun being involved with Doorstep Carols.

Last year it was smaller but still had a great impact. This year it was fantastic seeing proper filming in action and working with a puppet and puppeteer from CBeebies.  On the day of filming, it was cold and windy, but we were encouraged to ‘carry on’ in the same way that the Grange Hill and Eastenders cast would just carry on filming - no matter what the weather.  We had to keep going indoors in between filming in order to try and warm up!

“It definitely made us all feel Christmassy and I am really glad I was involved and got to work with experienced professionals in the TV and Music industry.”
