Sixth Form pupil secures places at two top conservatoires for September
One of our Upper Sixth Music Scholars, pianist Tom E (Ch) has successfully secured places at both the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and Leeds Conservatoire to study on the BMus programme in September.
We look forward to supporting Tom through his decision making as he continues to prepare for music college in September. Having recently gained a distinction in his ARSM diploma, Tom is managing to prioritise his musical studies alongside enjoying many other opportunities here at Shrewsbury.
Tom said: “I am extremely proud and honoured that all my hard work has paid off and that my piano playing has been recognised at conservatoire level.”
Director of Music, Maria McKenzie, added: “Tom has worked incredibly hard for his auditions and is right to be as proud as he is; his recent performance of Debussy’s La cathédrale engloutie, in the Scholars’ Recital took us to the impressionist sound world of Debussy in a beautiful and sensitive performance.”
Yuki Kagajo, Head of Keyboard at Shrewsbury also said: “Tom made significant progress over the last year preparing for his ARSM exam. His programme consisted of Beethoven, Debussy and Shostakovich, which allowed him to explore different styles, characteristics and harmonic languages. Tom shows great discipline and independence towards his piano studies, and I wish him every success as he continues at Conservatoire next year.”
