A week of festive concerts at Shrewsbury
As we approach Christmas, the activities in the music department have certainly taken a festive turn.
Highlights include the choir in the fantastic Carol Services and the department more generally in the incredibly well attended Christmas Concert on Wednesday evening.
Over 100 Salopians entertained the crowds in an enjoyable and uplifting Christmas spectacular. The concert was the epitome of festive cheer performed by a wide variety of ensembles, including brass, percussion, vocalists, the clarinet ensemble and strings which culminated with a second half that featured both the Jazz Band directed by Katy Landon and the Big Band and vocal guests directed by myself. Not only was much fun had, but we also raised over £2000 for charity – what great Christmas Spirit!
Turning to the more traditional, our brilliant and enthusiastic Head of Choral Music, Mr Robbins, has once again worked his magic with the Chapel and Chamber Choirs in producing outstanding Carol Services.
His imaginative choice of repertoire really did show off the choir in the best light, ensuring quality and excellent musicianship. The finale of Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, was something to behold, filling the Chapel with a sense of community and shared celebration. The Carol Services are always very special; this year is no different and Mr Robbins’ amazing vision has created a service that is varied, yet traditional and full of festive cheer, I very much hope that you have managed to attend one!
