Salopians impress the judges at National Junior Piano Competition
Two Salopian musicians performed in the national final of a piano competition over the weekend.
Chit S (R, IV) and Joanna C (QEH, V) were selected as two of the 10 national finalists to perform in the Broughton Junior Piano Competition on Sunday.
The standard was incredibly high and despite on this occasion not walking away with a prize, both Joanna and Chit should be incredibly pleased with their performances.
Chit performed Chopin’s Ballade No.1 in G minor and Joanna performed Le Leggierezza by Liszt and Etude in C# by Scriabin on a lovely, Kawai Shigeru Concert Grand piano.
The competition was adjudicated by David Quigley (former BBC Young Musician of the Year) and George Rowley (piano tutor at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire) whose feedback was very positive and encouraging:
‘Your sense of rubato is very natural and so expressive with fantastic shaping. A very committed and expressive performance’ - Joanna
‘Your playing was so musical and sensitive and so thoughtful, very beautiful indeed.’ – Chit
Director of Music Maria McKenzie said: “I was absolutely delighted with both Joanna and Chit’s performances and just so proud of them. The fact that two of our students have been recognised nationally is testimony to the amazing talent we have here at school.”
