Arthur Yiu Chung Yu piano
Arthur was born in Hong Kong and began his piano studies at the age of seven. He obtained second prize in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival (2013) and won first prize in the Hong Kong Youth Piano Competition (2014).
In September 2015, Arthur began studying with the internationally acclaimed Anglo-Italian pianist Peter Bradley-Fulgoni at Shrewsbury School and in 2017 he was awarded a scholarship to study with renowned pianist Frank Wibaut at the Royal Northern College of Music. His musical activities in Shrewsbury School culminated with performances of both the Grieg Piano Concerto and the Liszt Piano Concerto No 1 with the Shrewsbury School Symphony Orchestra conducted by John Moore.
Arthur has given numerous concerts as both piano soloist and accompanist in chamber music groups in prestigious venues including the Holywell Music Room (Oxford), the Cadogan Hall (London) and the ‘Barber institute of Fine Arts’ (Birmingham). He has also competed internationally in competitions in Germany (Geilenkirchen), Italy (Braone) and Wales (Caernarfon and Gregynog).
Arthur has taken part in masterclasses with pianists including Kathryn Stott, Steven Hough, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, Michael Bulychev-Okser, Laszlo Gyimesi and Colma Brioscu. He was a finalist with Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.3 Op.30 in the RNCM “Concerto Competition” (2019). He was awarded another scholarship to continue his postgraduate studies at the RNCM with Richard Ormrod (2021-2023).
