Girls' football fixtures are in full swing
Following the successful launch of the Girls’ Football programme in the Michaelmas term, the School are delighted that the girls’ football fixtures are now well under way in the Lent term. With a new kit, fantastic facilities, and a can-do attitude, they have risen to the challenge in pioneering the sport.
Last week, having had only a couple of training sessions, the 1st XI travelled to Malvern College for their first away match. Under gusty winds at the foot of the Malvern Hills, the girls lost 1-0 but played some great football, defended well and even hit the woodwork. The Seniors then went to Telford College of Arts and Technology for a 6 aside round robin tournament which was a fantastic experience for the girls to learn some of the more technical skills in football.
The U14s have also kicked off their season playing against Madeley High School in Round 1 of the Sisters n Sport Cup. In a very even but competitive match, the girls won 3-1 with captain Bella C (M, III) scoring a superb hattrick. Good luck in Round 2 girls!
We would like to wish both the 1st XI and the Junior team all the best as they both travel to Loughborough High School this coming Saturday.
All are welcome to come and support the girls in their next home game, with the 1st XI playing Oswestry School on Wednesday 8th February and the Junior team against Denstone College on Saturday 4th February.
