We received a lovely warm and friendly welcome on a particularly chilly Saturday morning for our annual concert at St James and Emmanuel in Didsbury, Manchester.

Our students did us proud in a concert that demonstrated musicianship and expertise in some incredibly tricky repertoire. The concert was bookended with chamber ensembles, beginning with the romantic Elegiac Trio in G minor by Rachmaninov and ending with the suptuous sounds of the brass quintet in the Grand March from Aida by Verdi.

Intertwined with some show-stopping solo performances were performances of La Oracion del torero by Terina given by the string quartet, the Prelude from Tombeau de Couperin by Ravel performed by the saxophone quartet and Belle Epoque en Sud-America by Julio Medaglia which has a truly virtuosic Eb clarinet part played by the Wind Quintet.

In addition to the impressive chamber ensembles, our soloists took the stage with confidence and performed in an accomplished manner, soloists included Angie K (EDH, III) on Double Bass, Saxophonist Natalia T (, EDH, LVI), Arthur H B (I, UVI) on Organ, Sam H (I, UVI) on Euphonium, Chester Y (Ch, LVI) on Flute, Shawn L (S, III) French Horn and Mia H (G, IV) on Cello.

The whole concert was incredibly well received and showcased music-making at Shrewsbury to the highest level. We look forward to our return in 2024!
