The annual Song Festival and prize took place on Sunday 21st January.

Tenor Elgan Llyr Thomas led a well-focused and interesting workshop on the interrelation between emotional state and technique and demonstrated what had been explored in performances of Una furtiva lagrima and Anthem for the students attending.  

Elgan sings principal roles with major national opera companies in the UK and internationally, so this was a rare opportunity for our students to hear a performer of this calibre at close quarters. In the two prize classes which followed there were a few students sadly unable to participate due to illness, but nearly forty singers nonetheless presented a wide range of performances across many genres.

Our adjudicator was extremely complimentary about the standard of singing demonstrated at Shrewsbury, and awarded the prizes as follows:
