High-energy performances at this year's Jazz in the Barnes
Rounding off a busy half of term for music-making was the annual Jazz in the Barnes evening.
The event raised hundreds of pounds for the Shrewsbury Food Bank, which will go towards providing fresh food to families in need.
The concert kicked off with the Jazz Band, who having reached the NCBF final, have been working very hard on perfecting the smaller details, coming across brilliantly in their performance. Amongst their new repertoire was Birdland, which was a number the Big Band was playing only a few years ago, showing how much they’ve improved in recent years.
Following them up was the Fraggle Brothers, a student created jazz combo. They performed a variety of jazz standards, with a surprise rendition of How Deep Is Your Love by the Bee Gees. The band consisted of Billy G (SH, UVI) on vocals, Max D (I, UVI) on saxophone, Ivo W (I, UVI) on piano, Jensen K (SH, UVI) on bass and OS Ethan P on drums.
The Big Band ended the evening, with vocal solos from Lilith P (QEH, LVI), Emma B (MSH, UVI) and Billy G (SH, UVI). Having also reached the NCBF final, the Big Band have also been polishing up their articulation and dynamics, especially with their new competition piece Sir Duke, a recognisable and high-energy number to end the night on.
