Our Easter CCF Adventure Camp aims to provide a fun and challenging introduction to adventurous training for our cadets and is aimed at Fourth formers, though we had a smattering of older pupils attending too.

We spent a week at Talargerwyn, the school bunkhouse in North Wales and our action-packed programme forced pupils to get stuck in from the outset. After some wet and wild rafting on the River Dee, combined with some gentle axe throwing, (not, you will be glad to hear, at the same time) the week then continued in a similar vein, with an overnight mountaineering expedition involving walking from Talargerwyn to Moel Siabod, a fine peak near Capel Curig. The other days involved mountain biking, a mine exploration, climbing, and an incredible gorge scramble made even more exhilarating by the sheer quantity of water tumbling down into our temperate ‘rain forest’ ravine.

The staff agreed that the cadets were superb and were a great group to deal with – enthusiastic and willing to get stuck in. Some of our senior leaders - Ellie B (EDH, LVI), Maggie C (M, V) Will H (Rb, IV) and Charlie S (EDH, LVI) - were as helpful as ever.

All in all an excellent camp and I am very grateful to the other staff for assisting on the camp, as without them it would not have been possible to give such an excellent experience to our cadets. Kerrie O was our chef for the week and did an amazing job in keeping us so well fed.

Some quotes from our pupils sum up the week:

‘I had such a great time and learnt to stay positive when the activities were challenging. I made such amazing memories and would do it all again…very much recommended.’

‘I really enjoyed this week. Waking up on day two with the of the expedition with the sun shining through the tent with the added excitement of climbing the peak was amazing’
