Shrewsbury
RAF Cadets Take to the Skies
On 10th May and 17th May, sixteen members of the RAF Section of the CCF enjoyed a trip to RAF Cosford for a flying lesson with former RAF front-line pilots.
These “Air Experience Flights” are a rare opportunity and the students are usually given full control of the Grob Tutor aircraft for most of their flight.
The staff at “8AEF” are volunteers and we pass on huge thanks to them and the pilots for giving up their time to foster a love of flying in our cadets. Here is a short video with some first-hand accounts of the day:
The lessons each last around 30 minutes; for some this is a first introduction to the basic controls of an aircraft while for others it’s more familiar and they can get some focused tuition on an aspect of aviation. Most students choose to experience the thrill of aerobatic manoeuvres, often flying loops and barrel rolls themselves.
As RAF Cosford is quite close to Shrewsbury, students get an aerial view of the School before landing.
