Future Music Scholar wins Wind Prizes
Congratulations to Richard P - who joins us in September as a Music Scholar - on his recent successes.
Currently a student at Mary Webb School, 12 year old Richard swept the board at the Oswestry Music Festival picking up an extraordinary number of prizes. His flute and clarinet teachers, Katy Landon and Donny McKenzie, (pictured with Richard) are both members of staff at Shrewsbury School.
Richard was awarded first prizes on the flute in the Under 15, Under 18 and Under 21 categories and first prize for clarinet in the Under 12 class and 2nd prize in the Under 15 class.
Director of Music Stephen Williams said: "We are delighted to have been able to support Richard’s musical development for several years now. His extraordinary success – particularly in winning in the Under 21 category – is a credit to his talent, musicianship and perseverance. That was evident when he came here for his Scholarship audition and we are thrilled that he will be joining us in September as a Music Scholar.
"He clearly loves making music and practises every day; it will be wonderful to support him on his journey to even greater things. His instrumental teachers have offered him brilliant tuition."
