Salopians impress Royal Northern College of Music professor in woodwind masterclass
We were delighted to have welcomed Kevin Gowland from the Royal Northern College of Music to Shrewsbury this week.
Kevin, who is the Head of School of Wind, Brass & Percussion, Director of Woodwind and Professor of Flute at the RNCM, came to school on Thursday for a woodwind masterclass for some of our incredibly talented wind students.
The following were given the opportunity to perform:
Ranen – Clarinet
Hazel – Clarinet
Benedict – Oboe
Richard - Flute
Sophia – Flute
Heston – Saxophone
Rob Cope, Shrewsbury’s Saxophone teacher, said: “Seeing Kevin’s masterclass and observing his working with my students was a joy. His ability to further inspire their musicality and communication with an audience was outstanding.”
Katy Landon, Head of Wind, Brass & Percussion, who organised the visit, was delighted with all the performances. “It was wonderful to see the students engaged in the different aspects of technique that Kevin focused on, each one responded and improved as a musician within the session.”
Kevin was hugely impressed with the standard of our musicians and is very keen to return to work with them again as there is some real potential within these young musicians!
