Talented musicians entertain at String Festival Day
Last weekend saw a String Festival Day held in the Maidment Building, where our talented string players met for workshops and a concert to conclude the day.
Eminent violinist and conductor, Alex Laing, one of the leading string coaches in the country, came along to take the workshops and adjudicate the competition classes.
The final concert featured a large String ensemble, the School String Orchestra, some solo performances from the winners of the classes.
David Joyce, Head of Strings, said: “The day was a huge success all round with a particularly high standard for the prizes. It was wonderful to see so many string players join the ensembles, and we welcomed a friendly audience to the proceedings.
“Thank you to Alex the adjudicator for his wonderful conducting and coaching, and to the excellent visiting music teachers for their hard work.
“We are blessed with some remarkable young musicians and a wonderful environment to learn and perform in. I look forward to next year already!”
