A Third Former has taken to the stage at the Royal Albert Hall to perform a solo for a charity Christmas concert.

Cormac T (R) travelled to London to perform at the Christmas with the Salvation Army concert at the Royal Albert Hall earlier this week in front of an audience of more than 5,000 people.

Cormac said: "Back in June I was really lucky to be invited to be a soloist at ‘Christmas with the Salvation Army’ at the Royal Albert Hall. As a consequence of the war in Ukraine, the theme for the carol service this year was ‘Peace’ and I was asked to sing a specially arranged version of ‘A Gaelic Blessing (Rutter), this led straight into the hymn ‘Let There Be Peace on Earth’ and for the finale song, I sang the Hebrew part in ‘When you Believe’ (from the musical The Prince of Egypt).

"‘Zharava, Artists in Exile’ took part as well. They sang the well-known hymn ‘Carol of the Bells’ What’s perhaps less well known, is this carol originated in Ukraine. Singing in Ukrainian, their performance was brilliant.

"I’ve never performed at such a big concert before and I’d never been to the Royal Albert Hall. It is an incredible building and I didn’t realise just how many people it holds until I stepped out on the stage and saw them all them looking back at me. I asked someone and they told me that it’s over 5000, probably best I didn’t know that but when the lights went up, I couldn’t see them anyway so it all worked out ok.

"My favourite part of the whole night was when the International Staff Songsters and the International Staff Band joined in with me when I was singing and although it was all very nerve wracking it was a huge privilege to support the charity, the work they do both here in the UK and internationally and I am very grateful for the opportunity that they gave me in return. The atmosphere was wonderful and it is a night I will never forget."

The concert will be on the Salvation Army's YouTube channel from Sunday at 7pm for anyone who wishes to see Cormac's performance.
