Pupils get an invaluable insight into professional sporting careers
On Tuesday evening Shrewsbury School hosted a ‘Talking Sport’ event, where six professionals attended to share their experiences of working in this industry with a sizeable audience of pupils and staff.
It was an all-star line up, with the panel consisting of:
- Football Coach Neil Cutler
- GB Hockey player Lorna Mackenzie
- Director of Event Operations at the ECB OS Rob Hillman
- Leading Football Agent Colin Pomford
- World Champion Rower and Cyclist Rebecca Romero MBE
- Top Sports Executive OS Nic Coward.
Hosted expertly by Sports Journalist OS Jonathan Legard, the panel members spoke with enthusiasm and insight about their roles, with questions on a range of topics related to sport posted by both Jonathan and the audience.
Head of Futures Chris Wain said: “I want to place on record my gratitude to our brilliant panel and to our wonderful host, Jonathan. All seven individuals are incredibly busy and to take the time to travel to the school to share their expertise with pupils from both Shrewsbury and pupils from local schools is hugely appreciated.
“It is always helpful, in my view, for pupils to see the connection between their curriculum choices and future career opportunities, and it has been brilliant to work alongside the PE Department to arrange this evening.”
For those who were unable to attend, a recording of the event can be found here.
