A busy weekend on the river for Salopian rowers
Shrewsbury School rowers had a busy weekend on the river, competing at Stourport and on the Severn.
The Boat Club had a successful day out at the Stourport Small Boats Head on Saturday. The club entered 56 athletes across two divisions to race over the 3600m course of the River Severn. The crews recorded a strong set of results across all the squads to give great encouragement for the excellent training done over the first half of the term.
Division 1 Results:
- Op J17 1x (1st, 3rd, 5th, 6th)
- Op J17 4+ (1st)
- Op Jn 2- (1st, 2nd)
- W J16 4+ (1st, 2nd, 3rd)
- W J18 4x (1st, 2nd)
Division 2 Results:
- Op 4- (1st, 2nd)
- Op J16 4+ (1st, 2nd, 4th)
- Op J17 4- (1st, 2nd)
- W J17 1x (1st, 2nd, 10th)
Also on Saturday, the Boat Club hosted the Kings Chester J15 crews for a return friendly fixture on the Severn. The dry start to the month meant the crews could race with near-perfect stream conditions, a rarity for this time of year.
The crews raced in a one-thousand-meter time trial followed by three side-by-side races over one thousand meters, five hundred meters and two hundred and fifty meters.
Kings took the honors in the time trial but the margins were much closer in the side-by-side racing, offering a competitive experience for everyone.
