Shrewsbury Boys' 1st XI through to ESFA Finals after 3-2 victory
Our Boys’ 1st XI made Shrewsbury history this week as a 3-2 victory sees them go through to the English Schools’ Football Association final.
At the home fixture on Wednesday the team were up against Brooke House College in the semi-finals of the ESFA league, with Salopian supporters out in force on the side-lines as the boys went head-to-head against the Leicestershire team.
It was a strong start to the match for Salopians as Captain Ollie S (PH, UVI) scored a penalty, followed by a goal from Louis C (PH, LVI) in the first half.
Brooke House clawed two back in the second half, but a goal from Archie B (R, UVI) scored the decisive goal with a final score of 3-2 and securing a place in the final for Shrewsbury.
Captain Ollie S said: “What an incredible occasion it was to be part of on Wednesday. It was a very proud moment for myself and the team to represent the school on a historic day, and to come out with a brilliant, well-deserved victory over very strong competition.
“Over the 90 minutes we had to dig very deep to keep the lead but with the passion and desire from players, pupils, teachers and parents it made the difference for us on the pitch.
“Now onto the final, we face a familiar opponent in Hampton School, hoping to get one over on them in one of the biggest games in Shrewsbury’s footballing history. It will be a day for all to enjoy and one the team is really looking forward too.”
The ESFA final will take place at Stoke City football ground in May, with the date to be confirmed.
Congratulations boys!
