Summer is approaching and so is a highlight of the third form year – Outdoor Week.

This week - taking place from Monday, June 12th to Friday, June 16th -  is positioned after internal examinations and is the culmination of our BASE programme that uses outdoor education, volunteering and conservation work to develop character and create bonding experiences for the pupils.  For parents of day pupils in particular please note this means they will be sleeping away from home on either the night of Tuesday 13th or Thursday 15th June. You will receive details nearer the time to indicate which of these two nights day pupils will not be sleeping at home.

The full programme includes a two day ‘mountain marathon’ expedition in the Shropshire countryside, an outdoor competition day at Packwood School and a visit to one of Shropshire Wildlife Trust sites to help with conservation.

Clothing and Equipment

We will supply all tentage, stoves, sleeping bags, first aid, safety equipment and we also have a stock of clothing items for loan. It is very helpful if pupils can perhaps provide their own gear, ie walking boots, proper waterproofs as this reduces pressure on our stores, but please do not feel the need to make special purchases.

If pupils enjoy their expedition experience they have the option to sign up for Silver Duke of Edinburgh next academic year, and Gold in the following year.
