The Rifle Club continues its proud tradition of producing a Shooting Eight to compete in the National Schools’ Ashburton Competition at Bisley and this year’s eight were an exceptional team.

At the start of the summer this year’s team travelled down to the competition, led by departing captain, Jonty Roberts (Rb, 2018-23) who won a gold medal for the highest score on the 500 yards range. The Ashburton Four team of Jonty, Kitty R (M, LVI), Izzie N (G, V) and Richard W (I, V) won silver medals in a very competitive competition.

Izzie and Imo V (QE, UVI) tied on 9 bulls from 10 shots in the McQueen Sniper Fire over 300 yards, on the v-bull tiebreak Izzie pipped Imo by one shot – Izzie was awarded the bronze medal, bronze bar and prize money with Imogen placed 4th.

The Shooting Team is made up of the best target shooters in the School and it was very pleasing to see the junior members Alex M (I, V), Freddie F (O, IV) and Solomon F-T (S, IV) - commit their time to take part in this prestigious event and be awarded their shooting colours.

Jonty Roberts was very pleased to collect the Iveagh Cup at Bisley – the School last won this impressive prize in 1968, so this is an outstanding achievement for the team.
