Salopian musicians perform at established St Alkmund's lunchtime concert
The Chamber Choir and String Ensemble were very fortunate to have been invited to the established Tuesday lunchtime concert series at St Alkmund’s this week.
Having been very warmly welcomed the Chamber choir began with two acapella songs, O Nata Lux by Kerry Andrew and Not One Sparrow Is Forgotten arranged by William Hawley, which provided the perfect introduction to the main item in the programme, Matthew Coleridge’s Requiem, conducted by our Head of Choral Music, Richard Robbins.
The choir were on fine form, producing a rich timbre in the perfect acoustic of St Alkmund’s Church, the Requiem in particular, was beautifully performed, lifted by the sensitive accompaniment of the String Ensemble and organ. The concert was superbly executed and featured several soloists from within the choir, Hettie S (EDH, LVI), Dominic T (SH, IV) and Anna M (EDH, UVI) alongside the delicate cello solos performed by Mia H (G, V).
The concert was very well received and provided a lovely opportunity to share our fabulous musicians with the community. This their second Requiem in as many weeks is testimony to the amazing work that Richard is doing with the Chamber Choir, congratulations to all involved!
