Shrewsbury saxophone teacher releases new album
A Shrewsbury School saxophone teacher has released an album inspired by the high level of Salopian musical talent.
Rob Cope has released an album of new music, heavily inspired by the incredibly high level of playing here at school.
The album - entitled Gemini - features advanced saxophone duets written by Rob, which is available to listen to on Spotify and will also be published as a book on Astute Music in April.
Rob said: “When I started working at school last year I had 8 students, all of them were working on their diplomas! The standard is so impressive and I wanted to write something my students could play for fun as duets. The album is on Ubuntu Music and also features piano and drums. I wanted to add scale and excitement to the project and this was the perfect way to do it!
“Gemini is a testament to our Director of Music Maria McKenzie, as up until last year these were all her students and Maria has created a most outstanding standard. Huge thanks to her for giving me the chance to take over her saxophone teaching and be inspired by what she’s done, and a big thank you to Nat T (EDH, UVI).
“Nat is a generational talent on the saxophone and was able to help me practice these duets, in order so that I could then refine them. She can sight read pieces that I would spend the week learning before the lesson! Nat’s enthusiasm and skill shaped these pieces and many saxophone players all over the world will benefit from her workshopping them with me along the way.
“I hope you like the music!”
