Shrewsbury
Podium places for Polo players at National Championships
On Sunday 3rd March, three Polo teams competed in the Senior Schools National Arena Championships at Rugby Polo Club.
Our teams played three matches each, won eight of their nine matches in total and every player got on the scoresheet.
Results as follows:
Beginners: Jason G (O, V) won this section as part of a joint team with Radley College and Cheltenham College. An excellent result for Jason's first competition.
Novice was divided into two sections:
Shrewsbury 1 came 2nd out of 6, beating teams from Stowe and Bryanston on their way to the final, where they lost to strong opposition from Cambridge and Newmarket.
Shrewsbury 2 achieved 1st place in their section, overcoming teams from Rugby, Stowe and SUPA Seniors to convincingly top the group with a goal difference of 7.
Well done to Annabella S (EDH, UVI), Grace Y (G, LVI), Towa N (EDH, LVI), Konrad B (O, IV) and Jason G (O, V), and to Tensie from Cheltenham College for stepping in to join us at the last minute when injuries unfortunately ruled two of our squad out.
Our thanks to coach Glynn Henderson and his team, not only for their ponies and support on the day, but also for the weekly Thursday afternoon lessons that have enabled our pupils to make so much progress.
