Rowers gain sprint racing experience at Eton's W.E.K Anderson Bowl
On Saturday nine Shrewsbury Crews travelled to Dorney Lake to take on Eton in the annual match for the W.E.K Anderson Bowl.
It was a great opportunity for the crews to get some early season sprint racing experience on Dorney Lake, which will play host to the National Schools Regatta on the first weekend of the half term.
The crosswinds conditions that greeted the crews were typical of Dorney Lake so while challenging, were a really useful experience for the crews to have to manage themselves getting attached to the stake boats. The crews raced in two runs down the track with the first race taking place over 2000m and the second one over 1000m.
The racing saw some fairly close match ups with the J16A crew in a particularly tight battle the whole way down the 2000m course only narrowly losing to Eton. The J15A crew made a strong start to their race and held off a strong fight back from Eton to win their match up. Despite some strong performances from the remaining crews Eton prevailed to retain the W.E.K Anderson Bowl by six wins to one.
The J15 Girls made fantastic progress in their two runs down the track. The girls raced against some of the Eton lower boats with some very close match ups. Thank you to Eton for hosting the event.
