Last week the school were lucky to be offered the opportunity to ball boy and ball girl at the WT100 event at the Shrewsbury Club.

This event is the biggest women’s indoor tennis tournament in the UK and was won by Marketa Vondrusova, who has held a career high ranking of 14, was runner up in the 2019 French Open and won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics. 14 students from all year groups attended the day and were lucky enough to see first-hand the level of the top professionals.

Master I/C Tennis, Henry Bennett, said: “It was a great experience for all of the students and we are looking forward to going back again if the opportunity arises.”

Misha C (SH, UVI), who attended the tournament, added: “It was great to take part in the tournament and be in 5-6 matches and see the level and technique of the professional women players. For me personally, it was amazing to visit such a tournament with this level of tennis, and to see a familiar face - there was a Ukrainian competing, who is 45th in the world, who I know and my friends who play professionally also know her well.

“In general, I wanted to say a huge thank you to the school and Mr Bennett for organising such an event for us.”
