Shrewsbury
Shrewsbury's Senior Boys and Girls' cricket teams just one win away from a Lord's Final
As the season nears its climax, Shrewsbury’s senior boys and girls’ teams remarkably both find themselves one win away from a Lord’s final.
Both have reached the semi-final stage of their respective competitions after a string of fine performances against some of the strongest cricketing schools in the country and will do their utmost to book their place at the showpiece day in London next Friday.
The 1st XI girls will play either Repton or Ipswich in the 100 ball competition at the weekend, while the boys travel to St Peter’s York in the HMC T20.
With both competitions open to every school in the country, reaching this stage is an incredible achievement in itself, and the players can be hugely proud of their accomplishments.
The boys travelled to Repton on Wednesday, and at the halfway stage had their backs to the wall after the hosts had restricted them to just 108-9. ED C’s (O, UVI) 28* was the only contribution of note as Repton’s high-quality attack blunted Shrewsbury’s top order.
With Repton boasting a top order full of county 2nd XI and England U19 experience, defending that meagre total necessitated a faultless bowling and fielding performance. Led skillfully by captain Jack H (O, UVI), who steamed in to claim 2-26, Shrewsbury duly delivered it. With the run rate required climbing, wickets fell regularly, and Will J (Rt, UVI) saw out the final over in a nerveless fashion.
